Beyond doubt, silver plated and massive silver musical instruments provide a certain charm and proven acoustic advantages. Although silver is called a "noble metal" it tarnishes often very quickly by environmental influences or aggressive hand perspiration... In the beginning the immediately appearing sulphuric- and chloridic layers diminish just only the gloss, but finally they become more and more a stable adherent brown or black film. Frequent polishing keeps it shining but the surfaces get worn very quickly - most silver platings are literally polished to death.
